Overview
MORR Transportation Consulting Ltd. prepared a Road Safety Review as part of a City of Calgary network screening process. The goal was to identify safety issues and provide countermeasures that improve road safety and operations for all road users along Macleod Trail, which is a high-speed major arterial road that provides a heavy movement function in the City of Calgary.
We recommended countermeasures along with benefit cost analyses and an implementation plan. The recommended countermeasures included installing high friction pavement on the arterial road to increase vehicle traction, reduce the speed limit to 70 km/h to allow drivers more time to react, install ITS based queue detection and warning systems, and install signage to better inform drivers of traffic controls ahead.
