Project Overview
The increasing popularity of bicycling as a mode of travel in Canada is leading many jurisdictions to develop new bicycle infrastructure to improve the safety and mobility needs of bicyclists. However, there is an overall lack of understanding regarding the specific safety performance of different types of bicycle facilities in the Canadian context. MORR Transportation Consulting Ltd. developed a resource document to characterize the safety performance of various bicycle infrastructure facilities to help Canadian practitioners evaluate the safety performance of new bicycle infrastructure and assist in the decision-making process of selecting a suitable bicycle facility and intersection treatment. The developed document is based on a comprehensive review of literature, a jurisdictional survey, a series of local and international case studies, an end user survey, and Canadian academic community engagement.
